Go Green Social Initiative:

About Us

Go Green is a refugee-led organization based in Uganda's Nakivale settlement, committed to empowering refugees and marginalized women and youth through sustainable skills development. Our initiatives encompass regenerative agriculture, arts and crafts, education, and entrepreneurship, aiming to foster self-reliance and community-driven growth.

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted adolescent girls in Uganda, leading to a notable increase in teenage pregnancies. During the pandemic, Uganda recorded 354,736 adolescent pregnancies, marking a 55% rise to 551,235 pregnancies in the first six months of 2021. citeturn0search3

In response to the alarming rise in unintended pregnancies among school and out-of-school girls during the COVID-19 pandemic, Go Green recognized the urgent need to support these young mothers. Many faced challenges in providing for themselves and their children due to limited opportunities. In 2022, we formally registered as Go Green, previously known as Bio-Green, at the local government level and began empowering girls and women through handcrafts and kitchen gardening. Now, as a nationally registered entity, we are poised to extend our services across Uganda, ensuring that women have the skills and resources to shape their own futures.

2024-Impact

In 2024, Go Green successfully empowered over 50 women through craft-making, equipping them with practical skills for self-sustainability. Additionally, we donated school materials to 200 children across different schools, supporting their education. A major milestone was the successful construction of our learning environment, providing a dedicated space for training and empowerment programs. Furthermore, over 25 women received specialized training in cosmetology, opening up new opportunities for income generation. Supported 10 artists to showcase their talent at a global level. We look forward to expanding our impact in 2025!

2025 Ahead

As we step into 2025, our dedication to empowering women and children remains stronger than ever. Currently, 20 children are actively learning art, and 25 women are engaged in mushroom farming. This year, we are set to:
✅ Engage 50 women in a food forest project, integrating an apiculture farm
✅ Support 10 teen mothers in producing mosquito repellent spray for income generation
✅ Establish a clean water system at Go Green to benefit the community
With these initiatives, we project to empower over 500 women directly by the end of 2025, fostering self-sufficiency and long-term impact. Together, we are building a more resilient and sustainable future!

Calm in the Hands of Nature

This moment became my art piece, "Calm in the Hands of Nature." The brushstrokes capture that sense of surrender, of being held by something far greater than oneself — nature, with its endless patience, gently guiding us back to balance. It reminds us all that, even in the midst of life’s struggles, we can always find serenity in the embrace of the natural world.

The experience exceeded my expectations. I quickly picked up the skills needed for basket making, and I found myself healing as I listened to the stories of others in the program.
